iPhone Duo reviews are in, days before Cupertino’s first foldable arrives in retail stores. Thanks to these initial reports, we now know a few new things about it. Apparently, Apple plans to add Reachability to it later this year – for users to reach the left or right edge of the screen with a tap, Wired reports in its review.
iOS 27 puts the Duo’s Dock and app controls on the side of the screen to free up vertical space for content. That’s a long way for a thumb to travel on a phone that weighs a hefty 254 grams. Reachability will join Apple Pencil (USB-C) support, which Apple also promises for later this year.
Wired finds the crease on the iPhone Duo hardly visible, thanks to Apple’s display stack and the matte nano-texture finish on the 7.6-inch inner screen. The Verge mostly couldn’t see it either, but says you can definitely feel it, and that it shows on a white image viewed off-axis.
Wired ended most days with around 40% battery left by bedtime. At The Verge, Allison Johnson had about 30% left after about 6.5 hours of screen-on time, while Nilay Patel needed at least one charge to get through his day. That’s from two batteries with a rated capacity of 4,883mAh, per Apple’s EU product sheet.
Lots of apps still open as a phone-sized window between thick black bars until their developers target iOS 27.1, Wired says, so its advice is to wait a few months. Some developers are quick, though: Slack already gives the Duo the two-pane view of its desktop app, which it never offered on Android foldables. (Android fold owners, we feel you.)
iPhone Duo is Php 159,990 (about $2,540) for 256GB in local stores, Php 175,990 for 512GB, Php 207,990 for 1TB and Php 254,990 for 2TB. It’s up for pre-order, but it won’t arrive in the Philippines until October 30th. Meanwhile, the US gets it on Friday, starting at $1,999 (about Php 126,100).
Are you pre-ordering one, or giving your apps a few months to catch up? Either way, check out one of the early iPhone Duo reviews with the source link below.
