Amazon’s Bee AI note-takers go on your wrist or snap to your phone

Amazon has two new products out – and no, they are not ebook readers. Amazon’s new Bee devices are gadgets that listen to your conversations and turn them into summaries, to-dos and reminders. One is called the Bee Frontier, which goes on your wrist or clips to your clothes, and the other is the Bee Eclipse, which can attach magnetically to the back of your phone.

Bee Eclipse is about the size of a credit card, 4.6mm thin and MagSafe-compatible. It picks up both sides of a phone call as well as the people in the room, and prompts you to get permission from everyone on the call each time you start a recording. One full battery charge lasts more than 21 days of usage.

The wristband model, the Bee Frontier, pops out of its silicone strap and can clip to your clothes, belt or pocket. It’s rated IP67, lasts up to seven days on a charge and has two built-in mics with noise filtering for places like crowded restaurants.

Each device has one button and a light that shows when it’s listening. Amazon says audio is deleted right after processing, and transcripts are encrypted with keys only your device controls, so not even Amazon can read them.

Bee can connects to Alexa+ and Amazon.com. You can ask Alexa on an Echo for a meeting summary, and things you mention can show up as product recommendations on Amazon’s homepage. Amazon’s own pitch includes remembering the dish soap you said you’d buy, and we have a guess where you’ll buy it.

Those connections need Bee Pro, at $11.99 (about Php 750) a month or, Bee’s pricing page adds, $99.99 (about Php 6,300) a year. Pro also brings unlimited history, suggested to-dos and a new Mac and Windows app; the free tier keeps summaries and 14 days of memory. Owners of the original Bee Pioneer who bought before October 15th keep the features they had, free.
