Google to launch Fitbit Edge tracker ahead of Asia release

Google Health's teaser locks in the date, while a leak covers the price, battery, and iPhone support.

Google’s next fitness tracker has a name and a date. Google Health teased the Fitbit Edge on X with one line, “Get an Edge on your health. 10.12.26”, and that date is Monday, October 12th. Google hasn’t said what time it goes live.

That’s all Google has confirmed, plus one photo. The teaser is an extreme close-up of a champagne-gold metal body and a peach band, and not much else. Subtle, for a product called Edge.

The rest comes from a leak. Dealabs, the French deals site whose leaker billbil-kun also leaked the Oppo Find X10‘s smaller 7,150mAh battery before Oppo confirmed it, has the Edge’s full spec sheet and these prices:

  • Europe: €179 (about $200 or Php 12,600)
  • UK: £159 (about $210 or Php 13,200)

Google still hasn’t announced a US price as of this writing.

According to Dealabs, you get a 1.34-inch AMOLED screen in an aluminum body, GPS, ECG (the heart-rhythm check), and coaching built with Gemini, Google’s AI. Battery life is up to seven days, or two with the screen always on, and five minutes of charging adds a full day. The battery is also user-replaceable, a rare thing on a tracker. It works with Android 11 or newer and iOS 16.4 or newer, and Dealabs says some features appear to need a Google Health Premium subscription.

That puts the Edge in the middle of Google’s lineup. Below it is the screenless Fitbit Air, and above is the Pixel Watch 5, which lists at $399.99 (about Php 25,100) on Google’s store, on sale now from $349.99 (about Php 22,000), and still needs an Android phone. So if you carry an iPhone and want a screen on your wrist, the Pixel Watch is out and the Edge is in. Dealabs says it looks like a next-generation Fitbit Charge, at €20 (about $22 or Php 1,400) more than the Charge 6, which came out in 2023.

Asia is the open question. Google hasn’t said where the Edge will sell yet, but the Air may be a hint. Google’s own store sells it in three Asian markets, and here’s how they compare with the US:

  • US: $99.99 (about Php 6,300)
  • Japan: ¥16,800 (about $106 or Php 6,700)
  • Singapore: S$189 (about $148 or Php 9,300)
  • India: ₹13,999 (about $145 or Php 9,100)

The Pixel Watch 5 reaches further, adding Taiwan and Malaysia. That said, Google’s store doesn’t serve the Philippines, Thailand, Indonesia or South Korea at all. We’ll just have to wait and see what Google has in store for those markets, for this particular release, if any.
