One UI 9, Samsung’s Android 17 update, is now out for last year’s Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7 in the US and across Asia. Samsung’s own release notes list the update for both foldables in the Philippines, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam and India, all dated October 6th.
Samsung’s Korean notes date the update September 28th, when it went first – ahead of everybody. In the US, Verizon’s update page dates the Fold 7’s rollout October 2nd, and Samsung lists unlocked US units of both phones on October 6th. Samsung’s own page for US carrier models still shows an Android 16 build from September 1st, so the paperwork is a few days behind the phones.
If you’re in Philippines or elsewhere in Asia and want to know what to look for, the Fold 7 build ends in CCZIH (F966BXXUCCZIH), and so does the Flip 7’s (F766BXXUCCZIH). Both carry the September security patch.
What’s new in One UI 9:
- My FanCam lets you pick a person in a video and follows them, cropping out everything else. Parents at school recitals, this one’s for you.
- Now Nudge, Samsung’s pop-up suggestions, now shows up in chat notifications and a floating button, not just the keyboard. It can pull in reservation details or save a place to Google Maps.
- A faster lockdown. Press and hold Volume down and the Side button, and your phone locks and won’t accept a fingerprint or your face the next time you open it.
- A blue indicator appears at the top of the screen whenever an app checks where you are.
- Multitasking: separate auto-rotate settings for the main and cover screens, and a drag-down handle that pops any app into a window or split screen.
A date in the release notes doesn’t mean every phone gets the prompt that day. Samsung releases updates in stages and hasn’t said how long this one will take in each country. That said, we are aware that some users have already updated their phones locally.
To check, open Settings, then Software update, then Download and install. Fold 7 owners, turn on separate auto-rotate first. Your cover screen will thank you.
